Not sure what platform your website is running on? You’re not alone! Many people inherit a website or work with one that was built some time ago, and don’t know whether it’s using WordPress or something else.
Here’s how you can quickly find out if your site is built with WordPress, and what to look for.
Check the Website’s Source Code
Right-click anywhere on your website and select “View Page Source” or “Inspect”. Then:
- Press Ctrl+F (or Command+F on Mac)
- Type in:
wp-contentorwp-includes
If you see those phrases, it’s a strong sign the site is using WordPress.
Look at the Login Page
Try visiting:
yoursite.com/wp-admin
or
yoursite.com/wp-login.php
If you get a login screen with the WordPress logo, your site is definitely on WordPress.
👉 Note: Some sites hide or customise the login page, so this isn’t foolproof.
Use an Online Tool
There are free tools that can detect what your site is built with. Try:
Just enter your website address, and they’ll scan it for you.
Ask Your Web Developer or Hosting Company
If you’re still unsure, your hosting provider or the person who built the site will be able to confirm. You can also check your hosting dashboard to see if WordPress is installed.
